Backyard Cleanouts in Compton: Clearing Green Waste, Old Furniture and Everything Behind the Garage

A backyard is where things go when there is nowhere else for them. An old patio set, a broken swing, a pile of tree trimmings, a few tires, a water heater that was replaced years ago. If you are in Compton and the yard has reached the point where you would rather not look at it, this guide walks through how to sort it, what goes where, and what a cleanout costs.

Step 1: Walk the yard and sort into piles

Before anyone lifts anything, it helps to know what you are dealing with. Most backyard cleanouts break down into five groups:

  • Green waste: branches, palm fronds, dead shrubs, old lawn and leaves.
  • Furniture and household items: patio sets, umbrellas, old couches, play structures, plastic storage bins.
  • Metal: old grills, bed frames, fencing, a retired water heater, broken bikes.
  • Tires and rubber: spares that have been sitting for years.
  • Things that need special handling: paint cans, pool chemicals, motor oil, old batteries.

Sorting first tells you two things: how big the job really is, and which items might go somewhere other than a junk trailer.

Step 2: Know what goes where

Green waste

A few bags of trimmings can usually go in your green waste bin over a couple of collection days. A whole overgrown corner, a removed hedge or a large tree trimming is another matter. That volume is where a trailer saves weeks of filling bins. See our yard waste removal service.

Furniture and household items

Usable patio furniture can sometimes be donated or given away. Sun-faded plastic, rusted frames and moldy cushions usually cannot. These go in the trailer.

Metal

Metal is one of the easiest materials to recycle, and backyards tend to collect a lot of it. Grills, frames, fencing and appliances like water heaters can be separated for metal recycling. More on that on our scrap metal removal page.

Tires

California regulates waste tires separately from household trash, and they generally cannot go in your bin. If you have a few old tires in the yard, they need a proper disposal route. See our tire and rubber removal page.

Paint, chemicals and batteries

Paint, pool chemicals, motor oil, pesticides and similar products are household hazardous waste, which is handled under separate rules from ordinary junk. Los Angeles County runs free household hazardous waste collection for residents. If any of these are in your yard, ask us before adding them to a load so we can tell you the right way to handle them.

Step 3: Estimate the size of the job

Our prices are based on how much of our 12-cubic-yard trailer your items fill. Labor and dump fees are included.

Typical backyard situationUsual tierPrice
A couple of large items, like an old patio set and a grillSeveral large items$250
A corner of the yard with furniture, metal and some trimmingsQuarter load$380
Half the yard cluttered, or a big pile of green wasteHalf load$500
The whole yard, years of accumulationFull load$750

Heavy material, such as broken concrete, bricks or soil, weighs far more than furniture and is priced differently. If your yard has any of it, include it in your photo so we can price it accurately before we come out.

Step 4: Plan the day

A few things make a backyard cleanout go faster:

  • Clear the path. Make sure the side gate opens fully and nothing blocks the walkway from the yard to the street.
  • Point out what stays. Tell the crew about anything you want to keep, like planters, tools or a specific chair, before loading starts.
  • Keep pets inside. With gates open and a crew moving through, it is safer for everyone.

Our crew does all the lifting and carrying. You do not need to move anything to the curb or the driveway first.
