Construction Debris Is Priced Separately
Concrete, dirt, stucco, drywall, tile and plaster are far heavier than household items. Disposal on heavy material is charged by weight rather than by the space it takes in the trailer, which roughly doubles the cost.

What Can Change Your Price
Where the truck can park. This affects the job more than most people expect, and it is the detail customers least often mention when they call. Backing the trailer up to the load is quick work. A long carry from a shared lot or a narrow driveway is a different job.
Carry distance and stairs. Curbside is quickest, ground floor next. An upstairs apartment with no elevator takes the most crew time.
Access. Older homes around Bungalow Heaven often have detached garages, steps, narrow doorways and limited side yard access. Apartments near Lake Avenue may involve stairs, elevators or designated loading areas. Does Pasadena Offer Free Bulky Item Pickup?
Yes, and it is worth checking before you pay anyone. The City of Pasadena allows eligible customers on City residential refuse service to schedule two free bulky item pickups per year, subject to availability. The City asks residents to schedule at least two weeks before their regular trash day. Four limits decide whether it fits your job.
Items are collected from the parkway, the strip between the sidewalk and the street. City crews cannot enter private property to carry anything out, so you move everything there yourself.
Each pickup is capped at roughly a 3 cubic yard bin, about 4 feet wide by 5 feet long by 4 feet high. Individual items also need to be manageable by two people.
Several materials are excluded, including electronic waste, construction and roofing debris, household hazardous waste, dirt, sand, gravel, large tree material, refrigerators and air conditioning units.
It is twice a year. After that, additional pickups carry a fee based on the amount collected.

Your items qualify, they are already at the parkway or you can move them there, the volume fits a 3 cubic yard bin, and you can work around the schedule.

The items are still inside the property. There is more than a 3 cubic yard bin’s worth. You have a refrigerator, electronics or construction debris, none of which the City takes through bulky pickup. Or a move, renovation or rental turnover will not wait two weeks. We would rather you use your two free collections and call us for the part they cannot cover than pay us for something the City would have done for nothing.
Junk Removal or Dumpster Rental in Pasadena?
The difference is who does the loading and how long the project runs. With full service removal, the crew carries the items, loads them and takes them away. That suits furniture removal, appliance pickup, garage clearing, rental turnovers, office cleanouts and anything you want cleared in one visit. With a dumpster or temporary bin, the container stays at the property while you or your contractor fills it. That suits a renovation producing debris over several days, if you have the time and the help. The City of Pasadena also offers 3 cubic yard temporary bins to eligible refuse customers, and states that construction material, electronic waste and household hazardous waste cannot go in them. The real dividing line is where the junk is. A container does not come upstairs, and getting an item out of a house is usually the hardest part of the job.
What We Cannot Take
Paint, solvents, cleaning chemicals, used motor oil, antifreeze, pool chemicals, aerosol cans, fluorescent bulbs and medical sharps should never be mixed with ordinary junk. The City of Pasadena classifies these as household hazardous waste and states they cannot legally be placed in regular garbage, storm drains or on the ground. Pasadena residents can use the permanent S.A.F.E. Collection Centers open to Los Angeles County residents, and the City publishes separate local guidance for paint, batteries, bulbs, used motor oil, medication and sharps. Where Your Items Go
Every load gets split four ways. Usable furniture and appliances go to donation. Metal, cardboard, clean wood and electronics go to recyclers. Refrigerants, batteries, e-waste and mattresses go to facilities licensed for each. Only what is left after that goes to landfill. Three of those routes are not optional.
Mattresses. California runs a statewide recycling program created under the Used Mattress Recovery and Recycling Act, funded by a fee already paid when the mattress was bought. Refrigerators and air conditioners. These contain refrigerant that must be recovered by a certified technician before the metal can be scrapped. That requirement sits under Section 608 of the Clean Air Act and is enforced by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
